Okay. So obviously I didn't end up being 14 weeks pregnant from thin air so I'll let you know the story so far...
It all started on the 10th May 2011. I had to go to the doctor's because I seemed to be having problems. They believed it was because of my hormones so I was asked to attend a fasting blood test a week later. This showed no results in to why I was feeling strange and to be honest, it seemed as though this was all the doctor was willing to try until he send me for an ultrasound of my uterus and ovaries in case there was something wrong there. On the 7th June, me, my mum and Lee drove up the hospital for my external ultrasound, which was pretty scary because I had never had one before and I wasn't sure what they were going to find! I went into the room with Mum and Lee waited in the waiting room. They scanned my stomach, and there you go, there was a pregnancy sac there. It just like a black blob on the screen. The ultrasound technician couldn't tell if it was a viable pregnancy or not because there wasn't a heartbeat or even a blob of a baby like thing growing there. So yet again, we were made to wait for another appointment. Driving back we were all pretty shocked at the findings and we weren't quite sure what to think. Secretly I think me and Lee were both wishing it would eventually grow into a baby, but we didn't want to get our hopes up too high...
20th June 2011: Today was the day. I was soooo nervous. We set off for the hospital at 7:30am because of the time it takes to get there. As we waited (mum, lee and me) it got more and more intense and I think we were all just fed up of the waiting and just wanted to know! Into the examination room I went, getting really tearful. This time it would be an internal scan which made it worse because I feel really uncomfortable about that sort of exposure to strangers. But, I soon forgot when I saw a little flashing heartbeat on the screen and the lady told me I was going to be a mum. A big smile washed across my face and I couldn't stop giggling as my examination was still in progress but all I wanted to do was run out and tell Lee that he was going to be a dad, and that mum was going to be a grandmum! When I eventually did get to tell them, mum burst into tears because she was so relieved I wouldn't have to go through the disappointment if the result had been different. Lee just gave me a massive hug and smiled. We were going to be family and I was so excited! I showed them the scan photo that I bought too!
Since then I have had my booking appointment with my midwife where we discussed types of scans, tests and birth options when it came to location. We also spoke about other things such as; lifestyle, my pregnancy notes, benefits, antenatal classes and what to avoid.
On the 21st July we had our 12 week scan, and back we all went to the hospital again! This time Lee drove because he recently got a car! :D We went into the scan and I couldn't believe how much the baby had changed (see scan photos here: http://alicesbabybump.blogspot.com/p/scan-pics.html)! It was really wiggling around and kicking its legs, it made me and Lee laugh but we were so happy it was growing fine and it was healthy! It was 6.6cm from crown to rump which means it is developing well. We could see it's little ribs, brain and stomach. So sweet! :) Afterwards, we had to wait to see a midwife to discuss the results and so I could get weighed and measured. WE WERE WAITING FOR AGES! I weighed more than I thought I did but I like to think I don't look that heavy :P (I was around 12 stone). We found out the baby was further on than first thought, so we were now due on the 27th January 2012 (instead of the 30th). Lee's birthday in the 27th January so we found this funny because he really didn't want it due then! My carbon monoxide levels were also checked and there was 1% in my blood stream, which is around 11% less than when I last had them checked in college. I was so proud of this because it makes me feel like I'm doing something so positive for the baby!
Telling my dad was easier than I thought and he's really excited to be a grandad. The rest of my family are also really happy and I'm so glad I have their support! If you're still reading, then there you have it. The story so far...
